The central mission of the TRB Urban Freight Transportation Committee is to foster, disseminate, and recognize outstanding research about urban freight transportation. To this end, the committee promotes ongoing dialogue and collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and the private sector about urban freight issues and emerging trends.
The committee’s research endeavors span a variety of activities and roles including:
- issuance of an annual call for papers on timely topics in conjunction with the TRB Annual Meeting
- conduct of peer reviews of technical papers submitted for consideration for formal presentation and/or publication in journals such as the Transportation Research Record
- organization of podium sessions, poster sessions, and workshops for the TRB Annual Meeting, TRB Midyear Meeting, and other special programs
- participation in expert panels for studies conducted through the National Cooperative Highway Research Program and the National Cooperative Freight Research Program
- maintenance of a list of current identified research needs statements
- promotion of collaborations and special research opportunities (e.g., Volvo Research and Educational Foundations)
